Let's take back America for the people.
Contribute. Volunteer. Seek Truth. We're in this together.

Millions of ordinary Americans have a growing, gnawing feeling that "something's wrong." They are right. We need new priorities, like upholding and defending the Constitution, stopping an immoral war, protecting our air, food and water supply, securing our ports and borders and revolutionizing our energy policy.

Let's say "no" to oil and gas, pharmaceutical, telecommunications, defense contractors and lobbyists making the decisions for our lives. do you want your tax dollars to pay for nuclear weapons in space while citizens on earth suffer from a lack of health care and affordable housing, escalating education, energy and food costs, a loss of civil liberties, jobs and purchasing power. What has happened to our social and moral responsibilities to veterans and their families, our seniors, our children, the broken and the disabled? Isn't it time to be a steward, not a destroyer of our precious resources? Isn't it time to restore America's soul?

We are engaged in an historical, generational wave of profound change. A season in which we return to the Constitutional balances of the power and policy our forefathers envisioned. A time where leaders understand that violence begets violence; and that peace is not possible without justice.

I believe that lies, greed, and an insatiable need for control has culminated in the worst foreign policy decision ever made in the United States. "We the people" must stand against the neoconservative ideology that has hijacked America with fantasies of empire while creating an America devoid of conscience, an America filled with fear, an America now mired in debt and despised by millions.

I will work toward an open, honest and moral reckoning of this grave error in Iraq and help our nation prepare for the consequences of our actions at home and abroad.

Let's examine the wounds of our history and forge healing by telling and seeking the truth. Let's return to the moral reasoning that founded this nation. Let's do it for our children's children and for those not yet born.

The truth will help set this great nation free. Your support will help me seek it. Let's get to work.

Nuclear Workers in PInellas County.

Tuesday, May 13 2008 @ 02:42PM

When I worked at Pinellas County Economic Development, the Young Rainey Star Center was a gleaming vision of success. It was a transformation to behold, taking an old Department of Energy plant that at one time made triggers for nuclear weapons and retrofitting it into a "shopping mall" for high tech start-ups.

I knew nothing then of the toxic and carcinogenic materials that permeated the facility from its inception in 1956, until it's surface "clean-up" in the mid 90s.

Reports now indicate that over 433 potentially lethal substances were spread about the building during those years. Tragically over 1000 workers toiled unaware of the toxic nature of the materials they were handling and inhaling.

There is Congressionally approved compensation due these workers, but delay and denial have impeded it's implementation. Meanwhile, many are sick. A few have died.

Former Pinellas Plant Nuclear workers have united in a strategic coalition to demand their legal and lawful benefits through the U.S. Department of Labor Energy Employees Occupation Illness Compensation Program.

Discover more of this ongoing story by looking at Steve Andrew's Channel 8's investigative reports.

Congressman Young is aware of these issues, but has not come out in support of these workers. Why? Has he been told to "follow the party line?" Why would he not use his power and authority to demand that justice be done? Perhaps this is another indication that Mr. Young is beholden to a Republican administration whose creed of secrecy and greed hold no bounds.

The method of delay, deceit and denial of the benefits for the Pinellas County Nuclear workers are strikingly similar to the tactics used against Veterans.

I urge you to contact Congressman Young and demand that these workers be given their just and fair compensation. While you have him on the line, encourage him to speak out boldly against a military strike on Iran.

Let's take our country back, folks. We've got alot of work to do.
